The Estonian Internal Security Service (ISS) on Friday arrested Sergei Fedorenko, a member of the board of state-owned railway infrastructure company Estonian Railways (EVR), on suspicions of having accepted a bribe.

The criminal suspicions are connected to Fedorenko's job, an Office of the Prosecutor General spokesperson told BNS on Friday evening.

Also arrested were a business-owner suspected of giving a bribe as well as two people suspected of aiding in giving a bribe.

A criminal investigation has been launched on the basis of the articles of the Penal Code addressing giving and accepting bribes.

The investigation will be carried out by ISS under the direction of the Office of the Prosecutor General.

Vopak cooperating with authorities

Responding to reports that ISS visited their offices on Friday to examine at documents concerning the business of E.R.S., executives at transit terminal operator Vopak E.O.S. and its subsidiary E.R.S. said that their companies are cooperating with the authorities.

Although neither Vopak E.O.S. nor E.R.S. have been declared suspect, they cannot comment on what has taken place, Vopak told BNS.
