Estonia's Smart-ID more popular in Latvia, Lithuania
The number of users of the free Smart-ID electronic authentication solution developed by Estonia's SK ID Solutions has reached 650,000 across the three Baltic states, and is currently employed by more users in Latvia and Lithuania than in its native country.
"Among more than 650,000 unique Smart-ID users in the Baltic states, more than 300,000 are from Latvia, more than 200,000 from Lithuania, and more than 150,000 from Estonia," Smart-ID business development director Liisa Lukin said.
According to SK ID Solutions, the biggest increase in Smart-ID user numbers has been in Latvia, where 15,000 users signed up during the first month after its launch in February 2017.
"Such steep growth demonstrates that Latvian residents need a secure mobile authentification solution that they can use to access e-services," Lukin explained. "It also shows that people are open to new, convenient and trusted solutions."
SK ID Solutions specializes in international e-identity solutions. It was also responsible for creating Estonia's national ID card and Mobile ID.
