In 2020, an additional 5,000 declared their income than in 2019, the Tax and Customs Board (Maksu- ja Tolliamet / MTA) has said. In total, 747,000 income declarations were submitted.
Of these, 96.4 percent of income tax returns were submitted electronically. Overpaid income tax has been refunded in the amount of €187 million and additional payments total €55 million.
Grete Urbel, head of the MTA's personal income and taxation service, said: "Due to the emergency situation, we had to temporarily close our service offices this year and extend the deadline for submitting income tax returns, which posed great challenges for filing paper returns."
Starting this year, returned income tax could be paid directly to a charity and almost €136,000 euros were donated.
