Palo is on a visit to Setomaa today Monday, a region south of Lake Peipus around the town of Pechory (Petseri in Estonian) today both on Estonian and Russian territory used to belong to the Republic of Estonia before the Soviet occupation following the Second World War.

Palo will visit the Russian part of the area as well, meet with the local administration as well as with businesses, and see the pilgrimage center of the Petseri monastery as well as a museum in Irboska, a local village that used to be Estonian.

The topic of the visit is cross-border cooperation, and Palo has invited along the association of Seto municipalities, one of her advisors told ERR on Monday.

Mihhail Korb will be in Pechory on Thursday, where he will sign an agreement on cross-border cooperation of neighboring regions in Estonia and Russia.

The agreement will present an opportunity to address several issues concerning cross-border cooperation that cannot be resolved at the local level, including public transport, the transport of goods, and arranging emergency services.
