Tallinn acting mayor and Center Party mayoral candidate Taavi Aas does not see the point of constructing a tram line connecting the city center to Lasnamäe District. He did not rule out other discussed lines, however.

"When Gonsiori Street is reconstructed, then a very good bus connection from Lasnamäe to the city center will be guaranteed," Aas said in a longer interview with daily Õhtuleht (link in Estonian).

In his opinion, when considering the future, it would be more reasonable to build tram lines to Haabersti District and from the airport in the direction of the adjacent Rae Municipality.

On the subject of other important future infrastructure projects, Aas also highlighted the construction of a smaller ring road in Tallinn, which would involve the extension of Smuuli Road from the airport, across Tartu Highway to Viljandi Highway. Aas found that this project would help to significantly reduce vehicular traffic in the city center.

Taavi Aas is the Center Party's candidate for mayor of Tallinn in this fall's local elections.
