Nestor to attend events dedicated to re-establishment of Lithuanian state
President of the Riigikogu Eiki Nestor (SDE) is in Vilnius for the weekend at the invitation of Speaker of the Seimas Viktoras Pranckietis to attend a meeting of the Seimas dedicated to the anniversary of the re-establishment of the state of Lithuania and pass on Estonia's well wishes to its Baltic neighbor.
"We are good partners with Lithuania, and we have been following a common path for a long time, from the restoration of independence to joint activities in the EU, NATO and other international organizations," Nestor was quoted by spokespeople as saying.
Lithuania celebrates the Day of the Restoration of the Independence of Lithuania on March 11, and concerts, exhibitions and other events are scheduled to take place all over the country.
Speakers and representatives of the parliaments of several countries and other high-level visitors are expected to attend this weekend, including Speaker of the Saeima of Latvia Ināra Mūrniece, Marshal of the Sejm of Poland Marek Kuchciński, First Deputy Speaker of the Alþingi of Iceland Guðjón S. Brjánsson and Chair of the Committee on Foreign Affairs and Trade of the Oireachtas of Ireland Brendan Smith.
