Government allocates €4.3 million in support for culture and sports
The government cabinet on Tuesday decided to allocate €4.3 million in state support to the culture and sports sectors, which are affected greatly by recent restrictions established to limit the spread of COVID-19.
The government decided to allocate €1.54 million for freelance artists with culture and sports organizations getting €2.8 million to cover their contracts under the law of obligations.
"We must hold our culture and sports organizers and creative people. Once culture reopens again, our culture life must continue on as smoothly as possibly. This is certainly a very important support measure, because in addition to the Unemployment Insurance Fund (Töötukassa), our field will receive extraordinary measures up to €4.3 million," said Minister of Culture Anneli Ott (Center).
The Ministry of Culture will begin creating a system to distribute the support resources. The funds will be allocated from the government's reserves next week, after specific distributions in culture and sports are drawn up. In addition, the government will also allocate €2.6 million to the Ministry of Education and Research to support private sector and public hobby education, also youth sports.
The current restrictions established for culture and sports remained unchanged after Tuesday's Riigikogu sitting.
