Kindergarten place fees in Tartu to remain same next year
On Thursday, Tartu City Council agreed the placement fees in city kindergartens in 2021 will remain at the same level as they were this year.
Kindergarten fees at Tartu kindergartens have been 15 percent of the national minimum wage of the last year. Starting on January 1, that percentage will be decreased to 14 and the fee will be calculated to the nearest whole number.
The current fee of €81 monthly will not change in 2021. In addition, all benefits for families who have multiple children in kindergartens will also remain valid.
If the minimum wage increases in 2021, then the kindergarten place fees will change in 2022.
Private kindergartens and childcare services will receive support from the city up to €81 monthly, on the condition that the place fee asked from parents does not exceed the place fee in city kindergartens.
The council has also discussed eliminating the connection between minimum wage and kindergarten place fees but has found that retaining the connection is important to provide adequate pre-primary education.
ERR News wrote on March 17 that due to the coronavirus pandemic and the following emergency situation, kindergartens in Tartu were free during the emergency situation.
