Estonian top tennis players Anett Kontaveit (WTA 22) and Jürgen Zopp (ATP 540) will participate in a doubles tournament set to take place on June 8 in Tallinn.

Allar Hint, secretary general of Estonian Tennis Association, told Delfi (link in Estonian) that many former Estonian tennis champions will take part in the tournament but former WTA 15-spot Kaia Kanepi will not participate.

Hint said: "I can't say what the specifics are of her not participating but for one, she is practicing on hard courts to prepare for the coming US Open (August 31 - September 13) and does not want to switch courts now."

Hint added: "I understand her side. The athlete comes first and this is a simple exhibition tournament to bring people together."

The doubles tournament is part of the Estonian championships being held at the courts of Kalev tennis club on July 4-10.

While Estonian top tennis player Anett Kontaveit will not participate in the singles tournament, it is still possible that top male player Jürgen Zopp will take part in the singles tournament.
