Estonia Becomes Full Member of OECD
On December 9, Estonia acquired full membership status in the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, after Estonian Ambassador to France Sven Jürgenson deposited Estonia's accession treaty with the French Foreign Ministry.
Estonia will also open its full-time mission to the OECD headquarters.
According to Minister of Foreign Affairs Urmas Paet, "accession to the OECD confirms the success of Estonia’s economic policy and the stability of it economic environment." The organization, whose goal is supporting global economic development and expanding world trade, will offer further development opportunities to Estonia, Paet said.
Estonia first expressed its wish to join the OECD in 1997. In 2007, the country received an invitation to accession talks, which concluded in the spring of 2010 with the signing of the accession treaty.
