Gallery: Defense Forces introduced new R20 Rahe automatic firearms
On Wednesday, Maj. Gen. Martin Herem, Commander of the Defense Forces, introduced the new R20 Rahe automatic firearms of the Defense Forces at the Männiku shooting range near Tallinn. Herem also tried out the new weapon himself.
The R20 is adjustable to the user's length and is suitable for both right- and left-handed users. The first order which arrived in Estonia contained approximately 1,500 weapons.
The weapons will be used by the Scout Battalion. Later, more will be acquired for the conscripts of the 1st and 2nd Infantry Brigades and professional members of the Defense Forces and Defense Allies.
Representatives of the Defense Investment Center and the US arms manufacturer Lewis Machine and Tool Company (LMT) signed a framework agreement for the supply of automatic firearms to the Estonian Defense Forces on July 2 last year.
The agreement enables Estonia to purchase of automatic firearms and accessories for €75 million.
