Ansip on three-day visit to United States
Vice president of the European Commission and the European Union’s commissioner for the digital single market, Andrus Ansip, was in Washington, D.C. yesterday to discuss transatlantic cooperation in the field of information technology with members of the Trump administration.
Ansip is in the United States for three days, and will meet different representatives of the administration as well as members of Congress, according to a press release by the Commission.
On Friday Ansip is taking part in an event of the Atlantic Council related to the so-called Euro Growth Initiative, a program that according to the think tank aims to foster “A Europe that is economically stable, embraces innovation and technology, attracts foreign capital, and encourages investment”.
Ansip also met with U.S. secretary of commerce, Wilbur Ross, with whom he discussed cooperation in several areas, including cyber security. He will also discuss topics like digital globalization, digital economy, innovation, and e-government with members of Congress and the Senate.
On Friday morning, Ansip will visit Symantec’s security center to familiarize with their approach to defending essential information systems, and fending off cyber attacks.
Ansip is also set to speak about the European Union’s digital single market in the state of Texas during his visit.
