Ministry of Defence to merge cyber policy, IT departments
The Ministry of Defence is to merge its cyber policy and information technology departments into a single department. It is also to hand wage calculation over to the Support Command of the Estonian Defence Forces (EDF).
The Estonian government on Thursday endorsed an amendment to the statute of the Ministry of Defence concerning the merging the ministry's cyber policy and information technology departments, government spokespeople said.
The department to be established as a result of the merger will be in charge of cyber policy within the ministry's area of government and ensure the provision of information and communications technology services.
The ministry is to also reshape the internal audit department into an audit and development department, which will be tasked with external audits, if necessary, in addition to internal ones.
Wage calculation will be transferred from the ministry's personnel department to the Support Command of the EDF. The amendment will harmonize and simplify the work of payroll clerks.
The amendment is to enter into force on Jan. 1, 2018.
