2018 Pyeongchang Games begin, 22 Estonians to compete

The opening ceremony for the 2018 Winter Olympics was held at Pyeongchang Olympic Stadium on Friday. 22 Estonians are set to compete in six events at the Pyeongchang Games, which will conclude on Sunday, Feb. 25.

A total of nearly 3,000 athletes in 92 delegations will be competing for 102 sets of medals in 15 events at the Games.

Speed skater Saskia Alusalu carried the Estonian flag in the opening ceremony, and 2010 Olympic gold medalist figure skater Yu-Na Kim lit the Olympic cauldron after being passed the flame by a pair of women's ice hockey players from the combined North and South Korean team.

Estonians among competitors Saturday

Three Estonian athletes will be competing on Saturday.*

  • 9:15 a.m. — Tatjana Mannima, cross-country skiing
  • 1:15 p.m. — Johanna Talihärm, biathlon
  • 2:35 p.m. — Martti Nõmme, ski jumping
