Around 500 Residents Missing Over Last 21 Years
Each year about 20 residents of the country go missing and cannot be found, putting the total number of unsolved disappearances over the last 21 years at around 500.
In Tallinn and the surrounding Harju County alone, the number of people who disappear each year typically reaches 50 to 60, though 85 percent of them are eventually found, reported ETV.
The numbers in other regions are markedly lower, but disappearances still occur.
According to the head of the Pärnu Police Department Mehis Mets, the country's West Prefecture currently has eight open cases resulting from disappearances that occurred between 2006 and 2011.
He said that over the past six years, the region's police had located seven missing people - four of whom were alive and well and another three dead.
Just recently, the police detained a man in connection with a stolen property investigation, who had been on the missing persons list since 2001.
