Five Estonians to suit up in Spain this year, Martin Paasoja latest signing
On Monday, Spanish basketball team Real Valladolid announced the signing of Estonian guard Martin Paasoja, who now becomes the fifth Estonian to join the Spanish leagues for the 2020/2021 season.
A pro since 2009, the 27-year old Paasoja has played most of his career in Estonia with two separate seasons in Romania and Greece. He last played for BC Kalev/Cramo in the Estonian Meistriliiga and the Estonian-Latvian Basketball League.
Real Valladolid plays in the second division league LEB Oro of the Spanish basketball system, which the team led in 2020 before the season was curtailed due to the coronavirus pandemic. Due to the sudden finish of the season, the team was allowed promotion to Liga ACB but did not fill the requirements to join the league.
Along with Paasoja, Estonian men's national basketball team captain Siim-Sander Vene will suit up for Fuenlabrada of the Liga ACB, Janari Jõesaar will play guard for Baxi Manresa of the Liga ACB, 21-year old Sander Raieste will suit up for Kirolbet Baskonia in both the Liga ACB and the EuroLeague and Kristian Kullamäe is signed by San Pablo Burgos, also in the Spanish top division.
