Otepää Crowned Winter Capital
The southern Estonian town of Otepää, an internationally recognized skiing destination, was crowned as the nation’s winter capital for the 15th time.
The ceremony took place on December 21, after which the winter capital flag was hoisted on the Otepää central square.
In addition, organizers have opened the traditional winter market, where 40 vendors from across Estonia are selling handicraft items, sweets, home-grown vegetables and even manufactured goods. Throughout the day, Christmas performances were held in various parts of Otepää.
Otepää also houses the Tehvandi Sports Center, where the most popular skiing tracks in Estonia are located. Despite the scarce snow this year, the center switched on its snow cannons and opened the one kilometer ski track to the public.
