TS Laevad, which operates ferries to the island of Saaremaa, entered into an additional agreement with the Road Administration, which will see the company carry out an additional 536 journeys on the Virtsu-Kuivastu route by ferry Regula from June 22 to July 31 this year.
In addition, the Road Administration (Maanteeamet) has the possibility to extend the order for additional trips within August.
The ferry Regula is used as an additional transport capacity and is ready for the growth of demand on the Virtsu-Kuivastu route. The company will make additional journeys if demand requires it and travelers are unable to board a scheduled vessel, or if it is optimal to make a dangerous goods journey with an additional ferry.
Additional journeys are not considered as being scheduled trips, and passengers are not sold tickets in advance.
TS Laevad earns a fixed fee of €322,000 for additional journeys, to which a travel fee of €335 is added for each journey performed, making a maximum of €502,000 in total. If an additional period is used, the additional fixed charge for the transport service is €248,000. The total charge for the transport service is, therefore, no more than €750,000.
Last year, the Road Administration ordered 536 additional trips on the Virtsu-Kuivastu route, for which TS Laevad earned a fixed fee of €1.6 million. A travel fee of €350 was added for each trip. In 2019, TS Laevad chartered an additional passenger ferry Mercandia VIII for additional journeys.
This year, the additional ferry will not be chartered and only the existing fleet will in use, I.e the replacement ferry Regula, unless it is replacing one of the main vessels of TS Laevad. As a result, the transport service fee is also significantly lower than in the summer periods of previous years.
TS Laevad serves the Virtsu-Kuivastu route with the ferries Tõll and Piret and the Rohuküla-Heltermaa route with the ferries Leiger and Tiiu. The company's fleet also includes the ferry Regula.
