VIDEO: Gottemoeller Soothes Concerns on Russian Military Reforms

US Assistant Secretary of State Rose Gottemoeller, in Tallinn for the Lennart Meri Conference this weekend, said that changes taking place in Russia's military are not something Baltic countries should be worried about.

Gottemoeller, who has led bilateral nuclear disarmament talks with Russia, said updates were a logical necessary step for Russia's outdated armed services, but as long as mutual confidence and communication regarding Russia's military activities are maintained, the changes do not need to be a problem, ETV reported.

Disarmament talks with Russia have been developing smoothly, she said, since Barack Obama's call for a nuclear weapons-free world in a proposition in Prague in 2009.

This year's Lennart Meri Conference was entitled: "The North-South Split - Managing a New World Order."
