President, prime minister other senior officials set for April 1 pay rise
Starting in April, a new higher public service salary index is to be implemented which will result in a nearly 10 percent rise in the salaries of the highest state officials, namely the president, the president of the Riigikogu (i.e the Riigikogu speaker), and the chief justice of the Supreme Court.
The three roles carry the same base monthly wage of €8,318 gross, to rise to just under €9,200 per month from next month.
Many other senior civil servants will also be getting pay raises, though in this case at around the 5 percent mark.
As a result of a legislative amendment made last year, the official salary of senior civil servants will grow by varying increments this year, the Ministry of Finance has announced.
Based on a reduced factor (of 1.053), the wages of the prime minister, government ministers, members of the Supreme Court, the state's Prosecutor General, the State Secretary, court judges, the National Conciliator, and the Commissioner for Gender Equality and Equal Treatment, will all be determined.
A full multiplier (of 1.106) is used to calculate the salaries of MPs, the head of state, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, the Auditor General, the Chancellor of Justice, and members of the Bank of Estonia's (Eesti Pank) board.
As a result, starting from April 1, President Alar Karis, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court Villu Kõve, Speaker of the Riigikogu (currently Lauri Hussar (Eesti 200) but pending elections at the start of April) will come to €9,199.92, gross.
Prime Minister Kaja Kallas' (Reform) gross monthly wage will rise to €8,759.05 exactly, under the new, albeit temporary, system.
The Deputy Speaker of the Riigikogu, the chairs of Riigikogu commissions and factions, the Auditor General, and the Chancellor of Justice will go on to a precise monthly gross wage of €7,891.93.
The salary of a Supreme Court judge, the prosecutor general, ministers, and the state secretary, will rise to €7,445.19 per month gross.
Finally, Riigikogu MPs are set to be remunerated to the tune of €5,979.95 gross per month, starting from April 1.
Tallinn Mayor Mihhail Kõlvart (Center) and City Council Chairman Maris Silla (SDE) will rise to €9098.03 from the start of next month. Deputy mayors' salaries will be €7755.70.
The average gross monthly wage in Estonia for the final quarter of last year stood at €1,904 (mean) or €1,578 (median).
