Tallinn Pride to be held again following decade-long break
The Tallinn Pride parade of sexual and gender minorities is scheduled to take place again this summer after a ten-year break.
"Tallinn Pride is part of the global Pride movement that is aimed at increasing the visibility of sexual and gender minorities in the society by means of a joyful event that allows everyone to be who they really are," it stands on the event's social media page.
Tallinn Pride will be held on Saturday, Aug. 12, 2017.
According to its organizers, the event is organized by a group of activists and not represented by any organization.
The Tallinn Pride events that took place from 2004-2007 saw occasional clashes between activists from conservative groups and participants. The last such event, which took place in 2007, passed peacefully, with only one aggressive individual detained by police.
Baltic Pride, a pan-Baltic event that is organized in Tallinn, Riga and Vilnius on a rotating basis, is also scheduled to take place in Tallinn this summmer; according to its social media page, the event is scheduled to take place from July 6-9.
