Over four years after their arrest in Tamil Nadu, India, in October 2013, the 14 Estonian ship guards released from prison last Tuesday arrived at Tallinn Airport via a layover in Frankfurt late on Wednesday night.
ERR went to greet the men at the airport upon their arrival, which was also broadcast live.
Lauri Ader, the only one of the ship guards to speak to the press at the time, said simply that he wants to go to work, hopefully in the Estonian Defence Forces (EDF).
The 14 Estonian men were among 35 crew and security personnel from the anti-piracy vessel Seaman Guard Ohio first arrested in Tamil Nadu, India on Oct. 18, 2013. The men were senteced on Jan. 11, 2016 to five years in prison for entering India with weapons, but were acquitted on Nov. 27, after multiple delays in the appeal process, and released from prison on Nov. 28 of this year.
The Indian Prosecutor's Office had the opportunity to appeal the ruling, but declined to do so, which allowed the men to return home.
