National basketball team climbs three spots in FIBA world rankings
After qualifying for the final tournament of EuroBasket 2022 recently, the Estonian men's national basketball team climbed three positions to 47th in the world rankings put together by the International Basketball Association (FIBA).
Estonia is now placed 47th after recently clinching passage to the EuroBasket final tournament in 2022. Estonia lost their final game to North Macedonia in a recent qualifier tournament, but an advantage on points put the Estonians through. Out of European countries, Estonia is ranked 26th.
FIBA's rankings are still headed by the U.S., followed by Spain, Australia, Argentina and Serbia.
Lithuania, who clinched their place in the EuroBasket final tournament during the last games of the recent qualifier tournament, is eighth after France and Latvia, who will miss the European championships, set to take place in September, 2022, is currently placed 27th.
The Estonian women's national basketball team is ranked 59th in their respective FIBA rankings, with those rankings also headed by the U.S. Australia and Spain make up the top three, the same as with the men.
