This February among coldest in decades
February in Estonia was colder than average this year, with temperatures dropping to well below freezing in the final third of the month in particular.
The average air temperature in Estonia in the final third of the month was -13.2 degrees Celsius, compared to the average of -4.1 degrees, marking the second-lowest average since 1961.
Only February 2011 saw slightly colder temperatures in the final third of the month, with the average air temperature in Estonia reaching -13.3 degrees Celsius, it appears from a summary of data compiled by the Estonian Weather Service.
Estonia's average air temperature for the entire month of February was -6.9 degrees Celsius, 2.4 degrees colder than usual.
The warmest temperature recorded was 3.5 degrees Celsius in Lääne-Nigula on Valentine's Day, while the coldest temperature recorded this month was -26.5 degrees Celsius in Tiirikoja on Feb. 23, the day before the Estonian centennial. This winter's record low was also repeated in Mustvee on Tuesday night.
Estonia saw an average of 22 millimeters of precipitation last month, which is just 63 percent of the average. The country also received an average of 78 hours of sunshine, which is 127 percent of the average of 61 hours.
