Lucky Winner Scores Estonia's Biggest-Ever Lottery Jackpot
One lucky person in Estonia won half of the jackpot in Wednesday's Viking Lotto draw, claiming a record-breaking 768,713 euros.
The winner, who has not yet been named, purchased the ticket by internet, according to Eesti Loto, the state-owned lottery company that runs Viking Lotto. The other winning ticket in the joint Scandinavian and Baltic draw was purchased in Norway, the company said in a statement.
The sum is not subject to income tax, and is slightly higher that the previous record of 733,814 euros won a year ago, also with Viking Lotto.
Exactly a month ago, a middle-aged man in Harju County collected 318,403 euros in a weekly Estonian-wide lottery game.
Eesti Loto paid out 24.6 million euros in winnings last year and handed over 7.7 million euros in gambling taxes to the state.
