Kanepi Passes to 2nd Round in Brussels
Estonia's top tennis player Kaia Kanepi (WTA 40) advanced to the second round of the Brussels Open today, beating Slovak opponent Dominika Cibulkova (WTA 16) with a score of 6-4, 7-6.
The 27-year-old Haapsalu native will now go on to face another Slovak player, Jana Cepelova (WTA 75), in the 690,000-dollar tournament.
Kanepi has performed well in her previous two tournaments, making it as far as the semifinal in the Portugal Open at the beginning of the month and the quarterfinal of the Mutua Madrid Open. In the latter, she was knocked out of the running by world number 2 Maria Sharapova of Russia.
