Major supermarket chains to remain open during Midsummer holidays
While some locations may have reduced business hours, Rimi, Coop, Maxima, Selver and Prisma Peremarket stores will largely be open on Victory Day and Midsummer next week, some even 24 hours.
According to Rimi public relations director Katrin Bats, Rimi sets its holiday business hours in accordance with previous experience, also taking into account both client interest and its employees' wishes. This year, Rimi stores will close at 9 p.m. on June 23 and open at 10 a.m. on June 24.
Stores in some areas, however, will remain closed during the holidays. "Prior experience has shown us that client interest in that area is very modest that day," Bats told ERR.
Coop intends to reduce business hours by regional cooperative. "To what extent one or another store's hours are reduced will depend on their specific cooperative and specific store, and each store will publish more precise information on site in a timely fashion," Coop communications specialist Marita Haho said.
Maxima media director Regina Salmu said that most Maxima stores will be operating according to regular hours over the holidays, i.e. from 8 a.m. through 10 p.m.
"Bigger stores in Narva and Tallinn are open every day from 8 a.m. through 11 p.m., and Tallinn's Maxima XXX stores in Haabersti and Lasnamäe are open 24 hours," Salmu added.
Prisma announced that all of its nine locations would remain open 24 hours from June 19-23. While five Prisma stores are typically open 24 hours, the remaining four, Tallinn's Rocca al Mare, Kristiine and Old Town locations and Tartu's Annelinn location, will be open 24 hours ahead of the holidays as well.
"During the holidays, we at Prisma will be working very hard to ensure that our clients can make their purchases as conveniently and quickly as possible during the Midsummer holidays," Prisma Peremarket operating director Teemu Kilpiä said.
Prisma marketing director Liina Pärlin added that on June 24, all Prisma locations will return to their regular business hours.
Selver stores will be offering reduced business hours on Victory Day and Midsummer. According to Selver communications director Rivo Veski, all Selver locations across Estonia will be open from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. on June 23 and from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on June 24.
