Free Party, Richness of Life merger agreement to be signed in July
The statutes of the new party to be established by the merger of the Free Party (Vabaerakond) and Richness of Life (Elurikkuse Erakond) will be drawn up by the end of July at the latest, and the plan is to simultaneously sign the merger agreement, which will be submitted for approval to the general meetings of the parties in mid-August.
At a meeting in Urvaste, Võru County, on Monday, July 6, the boards of the Free Party and Richness of Life discussed the statutes, the structure management and the schedule of further steps regarding the new party to be established following a possible merger, spokespeople for both parties said.
"It became clear at the meeting that each other's concerns are understood and therefore solutions are coming quickly. The members of both parties have also shown a supportive attitude towards the creation of a new one based on the existing ones," Free Party's leader Heiki Lill said.
"Of course, the final assessment will be made by the members of both parties at the general meetings and then it will become clear whether the efforts were justified or not. We will try to organize the general meetings of political parties at the same time," he added.
"I think the most important impression of this meeting is probably that the people around the table today are ready to work together to move forward towards common goals," Rainer Kuuba, the prime minister candidate of Richness of Life, said.
"We went through all the important technical nuances regarding the merger and the new statutes, and I think we can be completely satisfied with the result," Kuuba said.
"A new and stronger party with an environmental mindset is being born, where members can influence the politics through direct democracy themselves and hopefully with joint efforts, we will be able to significantly change Estonian politics so that dignified cooperation will return to replace constant opposition. It is time to take steps towards an Estonia that is healthier and with cleaner nature, where forests, birds, animals are cared for and where people are healthy, strong, joyful and happy," he added.
