Board agrees Free Party can continue negotiations with Richness of Life
Members of the representative council of the Estonian Free Party (Vabaerakond) agreed on Saturday the board should continue negotiations with the Richness of Life (elurikkuse erakond) to form a new joint party.
The Representative Council of the Free Party met on Saturday in Nõmme in Tallinn to review the negotiations so far and to discuss the future of the party.
Since the spring, the parties have been holding accession negotiations with the aim of forming a new party.
On August 20, the general meetings of both parties will take place in Tartu where the merger will finally be decided.
Märt Läänemets, deputy chairman of the Free Party and member of the Board of the Representative Council, said negotiations have gone well so far as there is a will within the two parties to join.
Both parties are polling between 1 and 2 percent, well below the 5 percent threshold needed to be represented in the Riigikogu. They have both expressed interest in the Estonian Green Party joining with them in future.
