Standardized System Makes Applying for College a Dream

Universities in Estonia are about to start accepting cross-border electronic applications, thanks to a new system developed by the Information Technology Foundation.
The University of Tartu will become the first of the schools to roll out the system, it was announced on December 15.
"It is often a complicated and bureaucracy-riven process for students to apply to a school abroad," said Kaija Murasov, who is in charge of foreign student admissions at Tartu.
"Admissions are even more complicated from the perspective of the university as it has to cope with different applications from different countries and technical details. Use of DreamApply.com will allow colleges and universities to deal with the content of the applications as the process has been automatically taken care of."
The development of the DreamApply service was coordinated by the three leading universities - Tartu, Tallinn and the Tallinn University of Technology - and the Information Technology Foundation, the latter being a non-profit that was set up by the above three universities, the state and the Estonian Association of Information Technology and Telecommunications.
The software is used by universities for admissions in more than ten European countires. The project was made possible by the European Social Fund.
