Registered unemployed increased by 1 percent last week
The number of registered unemployed increased by 512 people or one percent last week, taking the total to 51,342 and making unemployment 7.9 percent as of Sunday, data from the Unemployment insurance Fund shows. The number of registered unemployed has increased by 3 percent in a month.
Last week, the majority of people who registered as unemployed had been working in the trade, customer service and catering, accommodation and event management sectors. They have followed people signing on from the construction, cleaning, household and other industries and manufacturing sectors.
Of the newly unemployed, 25 percent had been laid off from their last job. The share of those made redundant increased slightly compared to the previous week, when it was 22 percent.
As of Sunday, the rate of registered unemployment was highest at 13.1 percent in Ida-Viru County and the lowest at 4.5 percent in Hiiu County.
Four collective redundancy notices were submitted to the Unemployment Insurance Fund which will see 102 people made redundant, almost twice the number compared to the previous week.
However, there have been fewer collective redundancies in June than in May.
