Government amends relocation rules for top specialists' families

The government will amend the law to allow families of top specialists from third countries working in IT or at a startup to relocate faster.
According to an amendment, an employee from a third country - outside of the European Union - can now be accompanied by their family members when they relocate to Estonia to work in IT or the startup sector. This will apply even if a person comes to work on the basis of a visa or without a visa.
Under the current law, the worker needed to move to Estonia and receive a temporary residence permit to work before inviting their family members to join them.
The new amendment allows the family to enter the country at the same time as the specialist.
The government said maintaining restrictions on family members is not justified as working as specialists in these two sectors is "added value" for Estonia and the economy.
The order enters into force upon signing.
