Pro Patria and Res Publica Union (IRL) chairman Margus Tsahkna and deputy chairman Marko Mihkelson will not be running for seats in the party's extended leadership at the extraordinary congress taking place in mid-May.

Neither Tsahkna, who is Minister of Defence, nor Mihkelson, who is chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Riigikogu, are among the candidates nominated by the deadline earlier this week, it appears from candidate lists made available by spokespeople for the party.

According to the lists of candidates endorsed by IRL's extended leadership on Friday, the candidates for chairman of the party are Minister of Social Protection Kaia Iva and former Minister of Agriculture Helir-Valdor Seeder. The candidates for deputy chairs are Siim Kiisler, Viktoria Ladõnskaja and Andres Metsoja.

The board also endorsed lists of candidates for the party's extended leadership, court of honor and audit committee.

With 14 seats in the 101-seat Riigikogu, IRL is the smallest of the three parties making up Estonia's coalition government.
