13,520 births registered in 2017
According to data of the Ministry of the Interior, 13,520 births were registered in Estonia last year. With registered deaths at 15,487, this means that 1,958 more people died than were born in 2017.
Of the children born last year 7,079 were boys and 6,441 were girls. 215 pairs of twins were born, 63 of which male, 60 female, and 92 with a girl and a boy each. Four mothers gave birth to triplets, and one to quadruplets.

The most popular names for girls were Sofia, Maria, Mia, Alisa, Nora, Eliise, Hanna, Lenna, Marta, and Mirtel. Last year's most popular boys' names were Robert, Robin, Oliver, Oskar, Artjom, Hugo, Martin, Henri, and Daniel.
In other demographic data concerning families, 6,051 marriages were registered, 558 of which involved a church wedding. 2,642 couples got divorced. The ministry registered 145 name changes, county governments registered 1,292. Of the name changes 220 concerned first names, 1,100 last names, and 117 people changed both their first and last name.
