Roomet Sõrmus, chairman of the board of the Estonian Chamber of Agriculture and Commerce, has highlighted data available from the Tax and Customs Board which shows the amount paid by the country's rural sector enterprises in labor taxes in the first quarter of this year was bigger than the amount paid during the same period in 2019.

"Data from the Tax and Customs Board reveals the interesting fact that business operators of the rural sector have been good payers of labor taxes in the first quarter despite the difficult conditions," Sõrmus said on social media on Saturday.

"Although the turnover of companies in the agricultural, forestry and fishery sectors in the first quarter of this year dropped by 15 percent compared with the same period last year, the amount paid in labor taxes has grown 5 percent both in total as well as per employee," Sõrmus said.
