Three Tallinn city center hotels to undergo overhaul, lay off staff

Three large hotels in the center of Tallinn have decided to start renovations as, due to the coronavirus, the number of clients has decreased significantly, daily newspaper Eesti Päevaleht wrote on Thursday.

In the autumn, three hotels in Tallinn the Radisson Blu, Nordic Hotel Forum and Tallink City will start their renovations.

Radisson Blu as filed a collective redundancy notice with the Unemployment Insurance Fund for 64 people. Earlier in the year the company also made staffing cuts.

The head of the Radisson Hotel, Kaido Ojaperv told the newspaper the overhaul will take between 12 and 14 months.

Work at Tallink City will start on September 1 and will end in June 2021. Approximately 60 people will be laid off while the work is in progress the head of Tallink announced in June.

The Nordic Hotel Forum will close the hotel for nine months. In total, 120 people worked at the hotel which announced a collective redundancy in April of 86 people.
