Industrial production up eight percent on year

According to information released by Statistics Estonia on Monday, the production of industrial enterprises in January increased eight percent on year. Production increased in manufacturing and decreased in mining and energy.

The total production in manufacturing in January was up ten percent on year. The growth in production was due primarily to an increase in the manufacture of wood products, electronic equipment and food products. Production increased considerably in the manufacture of metal products as well.

Among the branches of industry with larger shares, production fell in the manufacture of furniture.

In January, 68 percent of the total production of manufacturing was sold to the external market. According to unadjusted data, sales of manufacturing production for exports increased ten percent and sales to the domestic market increased 19 percent compared to January 2017.

This January, the seasonally adjusted total industrial production increased two percent and the production of manufacturing increased one percent compared to the previous month.

Compared to January 2017, the production of electricity decreased ten percent and the production of heat increased 12 percent.
