National women's volleyball team completes hat-trick over Latvia
On Wednesday, the Estonian women's national volleyball team held the last of three test matches against Latvia in the central Estonian town of Paide, completing a hat-trick of victories over their neighbor to the south.
Thursday's match ended with a 3:0 (25:15, 25:23, 25:16) Estonian victory over Latvia, with Kertu Laak bringing 16 points (+11) and Nette Peit adding 15 (+10).
Altogether, Estonia won all three of the test matches in the Paide tournament, while never dropping a set, taking a 3:0 (25:22, 25:17, 25:22) victory on Wednesday, with Kertu Laak scoring 22 points (+18) and a 3:0 (25:21, 25:21, 25:18) win on Tuesday.
Team captain Julija Mõnnakmäe, who has played an all-time record 88 matches for the national team, missed Thursday's match with an illness.
She commented: "There has never been a match in my career that I've had to watch from the sidelines. It was a new and difficult experience for me. I got sick, but people sometimes do get sick."
"I developed a fever and went to the doctor. Tests were done and I was prescribed antibiotics. I'm not ready to play right now, but am already feeling better. The worst has passed. We just decided that since these are friendly matches, the young players can play and they did really well."
