Jana Toom launches European Parliament election campaign
Center Party MEP Jana Toom launched a promotional campaign on Wednesday as she seeks to gain re-election to the European Parliament. Toom said the ads, which appear on billboards, were paid for by European Parliament's Renew Europe group.
"There is also the Renew logo, it has been paid for by the Renew Group and fully coordinated with them," Toom said.
Regarding the campaign slogan "dignity and rights," Toom said it was based on a quote from the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
"I also have [campaign] tents with that quote on. It is a quote from the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the first paragraph of which says that all human beings are born equal in rights and dignity," Toom explained.
Toom's European Parliament election campaign has begun before that of her party colleagues. Anneli Ott, secretary general of the Center Party, said the party would confirm its list of candidates at the end of March, with the election campaign kicking off in April.
Toom has previously suggested that the Center Party ought to leave the Renew Europe group.
Last September, she told radio show "Reporteritund," that Center could leave Renew Europe to join the Socialists and Democrats group.
Toom said that Renew Europe's outlook has changed over time and that the Center Party should therefore also reconsider its position in the group.
