School lunch subsidy to increase next year

The government approved the plan to increase state school lunch subsidies for public and private schools from 78 cents to €1 per student per day beginning Jan. 1, 2018.
Beginning next year, schoolchildren's school lunches will be subsidized in the amount of €175 per student per year.
Local governments received €17.8 million and private schools €1 million in school lunch subsidies for the current school year. Beginning next year, subsidies for providing quality school lunches in public and private schools alike will increase to a total of more than €26 million.
This increase in support will provide local governments and private schools greater opportunities to provide healthier free lunches to all children. In addition to the school lunch subsidy, schools will continue to receive subsidies for milk, fruit and vegetables as well.
