April industrial production volume up 10 percent on year
According to a Thursday morning press release from Statistics Estonia, in April 2017, the production of industrial enterprises increased ten percent compared to April of last year. Production increased in the energy sector, mining and quarrying as well as manufacturing.
April manufacturing production was up eight percent compared to the same month last year. Production growht was broad-based — in April, production surpassed April 2016 volumes in two-thirds of industry branches.
The growth in production was primarily due to an increase in the manufacture of wood, metal and food products and electrical equipment. Production also increased in the manufacture of motor vehicles and building materials. Among the industry branches with larger shares, production fell in the manufacture of electronic products, furniture and textiles.
In April, 67 percent of the total production of manufacturing was sold to the external market. According to unadjusted data, the sales of manufacturing production for export decreased three percent and sales to the domestic market rose five percent compared to April of last year. This April had two fewer working days than the same month last year.
Compared to the previous month, April's seasonally adjusted total industrial production remained on the level of the previou month, however, production in manufacturing fell by one percent.
Compared to April 2016, the production of energy increased 22 percent and the production of heat 19 percent.
