Estonia, Malawi Establish Diplomatic Relations
Estonia's ambassador to the UN, Margus Kolga, and the Malawi ambassador to UN, Brian G. Bowler, formally opened diplomatic relations between the two countries on July 19.
After signing the agreement, the two representatives discussed the economic situation in Malawi and the possibilities for cooperation between the two nations, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced.
According to Bowler, Malawi's economy is growing an average of 7.6 percent per year and, in just seven years, the average life expectancy has increased by 10 years.
Bowler expressed hopes to establish Malawi as a more popular tourist destination in the future.
Bordered by Zambia, Tanzania and Mozambique in southeast Africa, the Republic of Malawi was a British colony until it gained independence in 1964. With a population of 16 million and an agriculture-based economy, the country is among the world's least developed nations.
