Municipality mayor: Lihula shooting tragedy for entire country
Lääneranna Municipality Mayor Mikk Pikkmets said the shooting in Lihula on Saturday night is a major blow to the entire nation. Pikkmets confirmed one of the victims was a local Lihula resident and urged people not to speculate.
The mayor said such a shooting taking place in Estonia is unexpected and unbelievable.
Pikkmets confirmed one of the victims was called Ülle and had worked as a pharmacist in Lihula for 30 years. Her husband, who was driving their car and their grandchildren, aged three and five, were also injured. The children have been taken to hospital in serious but stable condition.
As far as the municipality mayor was aware, the motorcyclist who went after the shooter and also lost their life was not a local resident.
Pikkmets said the municipality is prepared to offer support and crisis counseling to those affected. He added, first, doctors need to help the children in the hospital. "Right now, all the help that can be given is in the hands of doctors."
He added: "We need good wishes and sensible behavior today. What we don't need are speculations."
