Power largely restored following Sunday night thunderstorms
Damage to the power grid caused by thunderstorms to roll through Estonia on Sunday night left more than 11,000 Elektrilevi clients without power. As of 9:30 a.m. on Monday, the network operator had restored power to nearly 10,500 clients.
Hardest hit by Sunday's storms were Jõgeva, Ida-Viru, Lääne-Viru and Viljandi Counties, according to a company press release. Elektrilevi teams worked overnight and will continue working until power knocked out by the storms has been restored to all clients.
"Lightning strikes in Estonia affected 49 medium and 20 low voltage lines," explained Hardi Puusepp, leading specialist at Elektrilevi's control center. "We expect to get the majority of current outages fixed within the next few hours."
Anyone to come across downed power lines is asked to stay away and notify Elektrilevi at 1343.
As more storms and windy conditions are in the forecast for Monday, the network operator's teams are on standby to respond to any more outages as they occur.
