Sven Sakkov in pole position as new Estonian ambassador to Finland
International Center for Defence and Security (ICDS) director Sven Sakkov has been confirmed as candidate as the new Estonian ambassador to Finland, the government has announced.
Sakkov, 48, requires the approval of Estonia's northern neighbor before taking up the post and being confirmed by President Kersti Kaljulaid.
Outgoing ambassador Harri Tiido announced he was leaving the post earlier this year. Last weekend, he gave as his principal reason a clash of world views with the current administration, particularly with the inclusion of the Conservative People's Party of Estonia (EKRE) in the coalition.
Sakkov's name had already been reported in the media as potential successor prior to Thursday's announcement.
Sven Sakkov served as undersecretary for defense policy at the Ministry of Defense 2008-2015, then as director of the NATO NATO Cooperative Cyber Defense Centre of Excellence (CCDCOE) to September 1, when he became ICDS director.
No other potential candidates for the post have been reported.
