The Estonian Embassy in Moscow, the Russian International Affairs Council (RIAC) and the Delegation of the European Union to Russia on Wednesday discussed the relationship between Russia and the EU during Estonia's presidency of the Council of the EU.

Director General of the Policy Planning Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Rein Tammsaar gave a presentation on the relationship between the EU and Russia as well as the Eastern Partnership initiative, according to ministry spokespeople.

According to Tammsaar, EU policy in Russia's direction is based on common valus and consensus. "Improving the relationship with Russia can only happen through restoring the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine," he stressed.

Commenting on EU's Eastern Partnership (EaP) policy, Tammsaar pointed out the importance of the topic in the context of Estonia's current presidency of the Council of the EU. "The close relationship and cooperation of the EU with EaP countries strengthens democracy, stability and wealth throughout the European continent," he said.

The seminar was attended by representatives of Russian state institutions, universities and research institutes as well as diplomats of EU embassies who reside in Moscow. Opening remarks were delivered by Estonian Ambassador to Russia Arti Hilpus.
