8th Soldier Wounded in Afghanistan Since November
An Estonian soldier was seriously injured in southern Afghanistan on Wednesday morning, bringing the number of wounded Estcoy-13 soldiers to eight.
The infantry unit had been patrolling near Nad-e-Ali in Helmand Province, when it was attacked by insurgents and one of the soldiers was wounded by an improvised explosive device, according to the Defense Forces.
The wounded soldier was given first aid by paramedics and then flown by helicopter to the outdoor hospital at Camp Bastion military base, where he underwent surgery.
The infantry unit Estcoy-13 began serving in Afghanistan in November. The Estonian military has participated in the NATO mission there since 2003. The Defense Forces did not reveal the name of the serviceman or give further details on the injury.
