The Väike-Maarja church in Lääne-Viru County received a new spire yesterday, after a raging storm tore its previous one off in 2010.
The 28-meter construction was lifted on top of the tower by evening, Virumaa Teataja reported.
Replicas of the ball and cross, which were severely damaged in the fall, will be lifted atop later this month. The restoration work, which began last spring, is expected to be completed by July 1. On that day, the church is also planning to hold a reopening service.
The cost of the works was approximately 12,500 euros. The majority of that sum was covered through the national church restoration program and by the Ministry of Culture.
