Actress Leida Rammo dies at 96
Noted Estonian actress Leida Rammo died at the age of 96, on July 23. She was buried on July 28 at the Pärnamäe Cemetery in Tallinn.
Leida Rammo was born on April 18, 1924, in Tallinn. She graduated from Tallinn 4th High School (currently Tallinn Kristiine High School) in 1942.
From 1944 to 1945, she lived in Aussig, Czechoslovakia, and also in Vienna, Austria and Liège, Belgium.
Rammo studied for a short time at Vienna Theater School until the school closed due to the outbreak of the Second World War. In 1950, she graduated from the Estonian Theater Institute.
Rammo worked at the Estonian Drama Theater, National Opera Estonia (Tallinn), Theater Endla (Pärnu), Estonian Youth Theater (Tallinn) and Rakvere Theater.
She starred in nearly 30 films, most notably "Noor Pensionär" ("The Young Pensioner" 1972) and "Viini postmark" ("Vienna Post Stamp" 1968).
On her initiative, the Leida Rammo City Theater Foundation was established in the Estonian National Culture Foundation in 2015 with the aim of supporting the Tallinn City Theater (Tallinna Linnateater) and recognizing the creative staff of the theater.
A documentary titled "August välja" (2013, directed by Peter Murdmaa) is about her life and life in the theater.
In 2015, President Toomas Hendrik Ilves awarded Leida Rammo with the 5th class Order of the White Star.
