On August 30, Estonian Foreign Minister Urmas Paet signed an agreement with his Swedish, Danish, Norwegian, Finnish, Icelandic, Lithuanian and Latvian counterparts on exchanging diplomats.

The agreement, signed during the annual Nordic-Baltic Eight (NB8) meeting in Helsinki, covers the practical aspects of stationing foreign service personnel in other Nordic or Baltic embassies abroad, in territories where the respective country has no representation.

According to Paet, the agreement is a good example of close cooperation under the NB8 framework, and Estonia welcomes this expansion of opportunities for diplomatic communications in countries where it has previously had no representation.

The ministers also discussed the developments in North Africa and Middle East as well as the issues of EU Eastern Partnership and the situation in the Western Balkans. At a seminar dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the NB8 meetings, the ministers canvassed the future of Nordic-Baltic values-based cooperation.
